Happy Thanksgiving!

I have so much to be thankful for it is hard to list everything. Family, health, home, food, the Gospel, our beautiful world, friends, etc., are all some of the things I'm grateful for. Amidst all the food and family gathering today, I hope we can each take just a few moments and give thanks to our Heavenly Father for the many bounteous blessings He has given us.

"And ye must give thanks unto God in the Spirit for whatsoever blessing ye are blessed with." D&C 46:32

Something NOT quilting!

As I mentioned in my profile, I'm interested in lots of things besides quilting and that sometimes my posts might reflect that. This is one of those posts. Saturday my husband and I participated in the El Tour de Tucson bicycling event. We did the 35 mile segment and managed to do better than we had anticipated. It only took us 3 1/2 hours to complete, so we got to the finish line about an hour before we had thought we would. That was a nice surprise. I felt like it wasn't that bad as far as distance, being worn out, heat, etc., in fact we were able to ride our bikes (well, dh's is technically a tadpole recumbent trike) about another 1/2 mile to where my daughter and son-in-law had parked our van. I figured that that was an accomplishment in addition to finishing sooner than expected. There were over 1300 cyclists in just our segment and that was quite an experience to ride with such a big crowd, but we managed fine. So we were a little sore the next day, good thing it was Sunday and we could sit and enjoy church, but overall, it was a good experience. Maybe I can talk dh into doing the 66 mile segment next year! :)

I got it!

Tuesday my car smelled like coolant so Wednesday I took it in. The heater core was leaking and we had just had it replaced in January so it was still under warranty, thank goodness! But it would take 2 days to fix so I wouldn't get it back until late Thursday, which was good as we are heading down to Tucson to participate in El Tour De Tucson, a cycling event, on Friday. So my car is in the shop and wouldn't you know it, my software came in on Thursday and I can't go get it!! :( But luckily, again, the shop called that afternoon and said they were done with my car and guess what, the shop is on the way to the store where my software was so I got my son to come home from school (he was not in class, just in the library doing research for a paper and having no luck anyway) to take me over there and after I picked up the car, I drove right over and picked up my software! Now I just have to put it on my computer, learn how to use it, and I'm off. Of course, with El Tour and Thanksgiving coming up, it might be a while before I get to the point to even put it on the computer. Oh well, at least I have it now.

Grrr!

Well, when I got my new sewing machine, it was supposed to come with some extra software but they were out. You'd think if the company was telling the stores they were having a sale of the machines and the software, they would send out some of both to the stores. Well, apparently they didn't. The store had a couple of the machines but none of the software! I did get an IOU for the software though, and a promise that I would be called when it came in. I had to call them this morning to find out what format the machine uses so that I could order some embroidery designs online but it was different ladies there this morning and they had no clue. While I had them on the phone, I asked if the software had come in and the lady said that it had. So I hopped in the car and headed over there to get it. When I got there, it turns out that it was the wrong software! Here is where the grr comes in! I asked again what format to order and they still didn't know but they did call the lady I had worked with on Friday and she told them what format to tell me. So I guess the trip over there wasn't a total loss but I wasn't too happy. So I'm still waiting for the right software to come in. Oh well, I guess patience is a virtue. I just hope it comes in soon!

Whoa, what have I done?

Well, I have been looking for a better sewing machine for several months now. My good friend has a couple of Husqvarna Viking machines that she likes and I have used one of them (a Sapphire 870 Quilt) and it works well and has a lot of nice features, including a large area to the right of the needle, something that would be wonderful to have for quilting large quilts. Her other machine is an embroidery machine (a Designer I) and I have watched it work and seen the wonderful things she has done with it. Like I said before, I wanted a better machine for myself, one with a larger area and maybe an embroidery machine, getting spoiled by hers. She told me last week that Viking has come out with a new machine that is like her Sapphire but with an embroidery unit added on and its price wasn't TOO exorbidant. So Wednesday she took me to the store and we got a demo of it and it is a NICE machine then the ladies there told me that it was going to be on sale today, if I was interested. So I came home, pondered it, talked to dh about it and he said I could get it! So today, while it was on sale, I bought one!!! It's a Designer Topaz 30 and I'm excited to get started with it. Still it's a little overwhelming to think I really went out and got a fancy machine! As I start using it and getting to know it, I'll let you all know what I think and how it works out. For now, I'm still a little shell shocked that I got it! Shell shocked but happy!

For Starters...

I'm fairly new to this blogging business but my dh decided that I needed my own blog, one about quilting. So he created this blog for me. Now I guess I'm committed to doing something with it. I do like to quilt and sew and do other handicrafts so this blog might not confine itself to just quilting. We'll see how it progresses. But for now, it's started!
